This is a non sence and choulded be prohibited , one of the major rules at commerce it is chould be provided to the bayer the maximun information and this last must be clear , this is a plot. It's known as Proxy Bidding, and it has been going on since the invention of auctions. I do it all the time here and I do it for people at my local auctions.

Friends do it for me too when I can't get to an auction before it starts. I'll give them a limit and they will bid u to that for me. Nothing wrong with the system at all. If that sounds like too much of a conspiracy theory, consider this: I copy the links of items I'm interested in.

I've got to get suspicious. Especially when I check links I Didn't bid on, for the same seller, and I see the same pattern. These are the sellers I stop bidding with - permanently. Example 2 PLEASE, don't even try to tell me some mass-sellers don't have the technological capability to set up automated bids. Again, those are sellers I no longer bid with. Why not bring this to ebay's attention, you might wonder.

Ergo, I didn't waste my time reporting it. Most people probably don't even notice. I just started noticing that last week and today it has be confirmed.

I was bidding on an item no one was watching and I placed a bid now that it's coming to a close I've been out bid I feel they have other accounts or have they friend and family acting like other buyers and jacking up the bid pricing.

I I'm feeling it's a scam and after this bid I'm in if i see it again i will not bid on here ever again Its sad that Honesty has left so many places Comments 4. The max bid isn't hidden, which annoys me to no end. Umm dshepesq No one else sees your hidden bid. Not other bidders, not the seller.

Only you can see it. If you place additional bids when you are the current high bidder, they have to be higher than your current bid. That can be less than the current high bidder's maximum bid, as the OP described. Once you outbid them, you become the highest bidder. Why was I immediately outbid? This happens not because another bidder or the seller is cheating but rather because of the proxy bidding system that eBay uses, which allows users to set their maximum bid and increment of bid increase that is automatically applied when someone outbids them on an item.

Since eBay has started to disclose your maximum bids to sellers, have you noticed an increase in sellers who try to worm out of the auction after eBay sends them the notice telling them what you really were willing to pay? Sometimes you will be outbid as soon as you enter your bid, even though the bid you entered was higher than the current bid shown on the item listing.

This happens because another buyer had a higher maximum bid MaxBid than yours. However, if you feel that you have a legitimate reason for not buying the item, you can contact the seller and ask if they can cancel it for you. If the buyer does not pay, the seller receives an email that Final Value Fees will be credited back to their account. After a certain number of unpaid item strikes, the buyer is removed from eBay.

This way, non-paying deadbeats will be removed from eBay systematically. If there are 12 hours or more left before the listing ends, all of your bids can be retracted. The seller has until your offer expires to decide whether to accept or reject your offer. They can also suggest another price. Without hesitation, every bid place is immediately out bid by only one other bidder.

Could this be a fraudulent seller trying to get the most money for their product?! I find it humanly impossible to keep outbidding someone that quickly. Who should I contact about these concerns?

When the contact us link only brings you in circles as to report this suspicion behavior? Comments 0. Accepted Solutions 0. Answers 3. Comments 3. The key time to be active in an auction to be more successful is the final 15 minutes of the auction. In the final 15 minutes, log back onto eBay and go to your My eBay page. On the item listing you will see a "1-Click Bids" button. This is a one-step way to quickly increase your bid by one bid increment with each click in the final minutes.

In the last 5 minutes, increase your Max Bid to a price that is a much higher amount than the current high bid. Even if you are the highest bidder, you can increase your Max Bid.

One strategy is to put in a super-high Max Bid, so that a sniper won't be able to overbid in the final seconds. Keep in mind, however, this could mean you end up paying more than you planned for the item.
